As the name suggests, Invisalign® is a series of nearly invisible aligners that move your teeth little by little into their final desired positions. These aligners are made out of clear plastic and fit snugly over your teeth. The result is orthodontic treatment that is subtle and discreet. In fact, no one will even realize that you’re wearing Invisalign® aligners unless they’re standing close.
Invisalign® is perfect for teen and adult patients who want to avoid the look of traditional metal braces. It’s also great for older patients because they require discipline to wear.
In order for Invisalign® to work, you’ll need to wear your clear aligners at least 20 to 22 hours a day. Otherwise, your teeth won’t move according to your original treatment timeline.
Keep in mind that each patient is different. To learn if you’re a candidate for Invisalign®, you’ll need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Siara-Olds. She’ll be able to determine the best course of action to help you achieve your dream smile.
In general, the average Invisalign® treatment lasts between 12 and 18 months. But it’s important to remember that each patient has different needs. For example, our treatment time may take longer if we need to achieve complex tooth movements. You may also need to wear Invisalign® aligners for longer if you don’t wear them as instructed by our orthodontist.
Dr. Siara-Olds will be able to provide an accurate timeline during your treatment planning appointment.
You’ll need toat least once a day. To do this, you’ll need to rinse your aligners every night and brush them gently with your toothbrush. This will help remove plaque and food particles from your aligners.
You may also invest in the, which uses crystals to remove plaque from your aligners in about 15 minutes.
No, you’ll be able to enjoy an unrestricted diet during Invisalign® treatment. This is because the aligners are removable. This is different from clear ceramic and metal braces, which would require you to avoid foods that are sticky and/or hard to chew.
When you remove your aligners to eat, be sure to always put them in the case we give you. This will protect them from getting crushed or accidentally thrown out. For example, it’s not uncommon for people to throw away their aligners by accident when they place them inside a napkin or on a lunch tray. Don’t let this be you!
After you’re done eating, you’ll need to brush your teeth to avoid staining your clear aligners. This will also help you prevent bad breath.
