What are the Benefits of Ceramic Braces?

Wish you could skip traditional metal braces? Ask Dr. Siara-Olds if you’re a candidate for clear ceramic braces. Ceramic braces blend in with the color of your natural tooth enamel so you can smile with confidence during orthodontic treatment. They’re also a great option for teens and adults who would prefer a more discreet orthodontic option.

Here’s what else you need to know about ceramic braces.

STAIN RESISTANT

Today’s ceramic brackets are much more stain resistant than their predecessors from the 1980s. That being said, it’s important that you continue to practice good oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment. This means brushing your teeth twice a day for two minutes at a time. You should also be flossing once a day to remove any plaque or food particles that could be trapped between teeth.

We encourage patients with ceramic braces to cut back on staining foods and beverages, such as coffee. While the ceramic brackets are stain resistant, the elastic ties that connect the archwires to the brackets may yellow if you neglect oral hygiene. But this can be easily avoided if you brush and floss as directed by our orthodontist.

DISCREET

Clear ceramic braces are great for patients who may feel self-conscious with traditional metal braces. They’re also great for patients who are going to school or have a public-facing job. Having ceramic braces can help you feel more confidence during treatment. Ceramic braces can also help you make a great first impression, especially if you’re interviewing for a new job or trying to impress a date.

SAFE AND EFFECTIVE

As with any orthodontic treatment, the main advantage of ceramic braces is that they exert gentle but constant pressure on your teeth. This shifts your teeth into their optimal positions for good oral health. Ceramic braces are both a safe and effective option for teeth straightening. During your treatment, you’ll also be under the supervision of our board-certified orthodontist.

IMPROVED ORAL HEALTH

It’s difficult to clean teeth that are crooked and/or crowded. But it’ll be much easier to brush and floss once you’re done with orthodontic treatment. Plaque will also have fewer places to hide. The result is a healthier, more attractive smile.

Flossing with ceramic braces can be tricky. That’s why we encourage our patients to ask us any questions they may have about oral hygiene. We can show you how to use a floss threader to get the floss underneath the wires and between brackets. That way, you’ll be able to enjoy a healthy smile while wearing your ceramic braces.

Once your teeth are straightened, you’ll be able to brush and floss with ease.
